Domestic Violence

Free of Violence

By addressing domestic violence through education, support, and community action, CafeKind can help create a safer, more compassionate community. This aligns with the organization’s mission to eradicate loneliness and exclusion through acts of kindness, compassion, and social justice.

Understanding Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a serious and pervasive issue that affects individuals and communities worldwide. CafeKind’s mission to foster compassion, connection, and community can play a vital role in addressing domestic violence by providing support, raising awareness, and promoting social justice.

Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence (IPV), includes physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse by a current or former partner or spouse. It can also involve economic control and coercive behavior.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 10 million women and men annually.

Common Types of Domestic Violence

  • Physical Abuse: Hitting, slapping, shoving, grabbing, pinching, biting, hair-pulling, etc.
  • Sexual Abuse: Coercing or attempting to coerce any sexual contact or behavior without consent.
  • Emotional Abuse: Undermining an individual’s sense of self-worth through constant criticism, belittling, name-calling, etc.
  • Economic Abuse: Controlling or restricting access to financial resources, employment, or education.
  • Psychological Abuse: Intimidation, threats of harm to self, partner, or loved ones, and isolation.
